Pittsburgh – The GNC Live Well Liberty Mile announces “Run 1 For Lucas,” an opportunity for Pittsburgh runners of all ages and abilities to dedicate their one-mile run to two-year-old Lucas Goeller, the local youngster who has waited more than 18 months for a lifesaving liver transplant. The event is hosted by Pittsburgh Three Rivers Marathon, Inc. (P3R), and race organizers hope “Run 1 For Lucas” will help encourage families who are faced with the decision to say yes to organ donation.
“My niece received a pediatric heart transplant 22 years ago in Pittsburgh, so I have seen first-hand how organ transplantation saves lives,” says Patrice Matamoros, P3R CEO. “We hope ‘Run 1 For Lucas’ gives hundreds of runners the opportunity to express their support and share hope and inspiration with the Goellers as they wait for a donor. We also hope our event plays a part in helping to spread the word -- locally and nationally -- about the desperate need for organ donation.”
To register to Run 1 For Lucas, visit www.libertymile.org and click “Register Now” and then click “SignUp” to start the process. Choose Youth or Adult Run 1 For Lucas as your event. If you are registering for the Masters, Unstoppable or Team Challenge, you can still dedicate your run to Lucas by indicating it during the registration process.

Approximately 124,000 people are awaiting organ transplants in the United States today, and eighteen people die every day while waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
