2017 Pro-athlete field highlights

  • This year's field include 14 sub-4 minute men’s milers and 9 sub-4:30 minute women’s milers.
  • Defending GNC Live Well Liberty Mile champions Heather Kampf and Ben Blankenship will return to the City of Champions to defend their titles. Heather is going for her 5th win, and Ben is going for his 2nd win. 
  • Heather Kampf has been nicknamed "Queen of the Road Mile" and is also a 4-time USA 1 Mile Road Champion.
  • Ben Blankenship is a 2016 Olympian, who finished 8th in the 1500 meter final in his Olympic debut. He also is the 2016 USA 1 Mile ROad Champion.
  • This year's field also includes Katie Mackey, who won the 2017 USA 1 Mile Road crown.

Since its inception in 2008, P3R has consistently supported elite athlete development and now awards more than $150,000 to athletes during its calendar of events, including the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, GNC Live Well Liberty Mile and EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler.

Professional Athletes

America’s fastest milers will compete for a $30,000 prize purse at this year’s GNC Live Well Liberty Mile.

American Development Pro Mile Standards

  • Male athletes seeking entry into the Professional race of the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile must have run 4:01:00 or faster for a mile on the track (or 3:43.7 or faster for 1500m) in 2015 or 2016.
  • Females athletes seeking entry into the professional race of the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile must have 4:45:0 or faster for a mile on the track (or 4:25.4 or faster for 1500m) in 2015 or 2016.

Bring Back the Mile Tour

The GNC Live Well Liberty Mile is part of the 2017 Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour, which offers a $10,000 prize purse for the top-placing athletes in the year-long series.

Drug Policy

P3R has a zero tolerance drug policy.
 
Athletes who participate in P3R events may be subject to drug testing conducted by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).  Athletes with positive drug test results will forfeit any prize money and will be disqualified from the P3R event in which such athlete participated.
